INTRODUCTION TO SKIT IF CONTINUING ON IN THE SERIES:
(DARREN and BROOK enter. DARREN carries a Bible.)
BROOK Now that people can no longer live
. in the Garden of Eden, I’m sure
. things are not going to be easy.
DARREN Ready for imagination time travel?
(DARREN holds the Bible up, while he and BROOK
both open the Bible together, eyes wide, excited
and looking around wondering what will happen.)
SCRIPT CONTINUES HERE AFTER INTRODUCTION OPTION:
(CAIN enters holding a shovel.)
DARREN That must be Adam and Eve’s first son,
. Cain. He grew up and became a farmer.
(ABEL enters holding a shepherd’s staff.)
BROOK That would be Adam and Eve’s next son,
. Abel, who became a shepherd.
(CAIN looks at ABEL, then exits.
ABEL stays, pretending to watch sheep.)
BROOK It looks as if Cain is maybe jealous
. or angry at Abel.
(DARREN looks at the scripture.)
DARREN It says that when it came time
. to offer a sacrifice to God,
. Abel gave the best of all his sheep.
BROOK Abel’s sacrifice was done sincerely,
. like He really believed in God.
(ABEL kneels and mimes putting something in front of him,
then goes into prayer stance, still on his knees.
CAIN enters and sees ABEL. Putting down his shovel,
CAIN looks around on the ground, [miming] picking up
fruit and putting it into a basket.)
DARREN While Cain decided to just pick up fruit
. which had already fallen to the ground.
BROOK Ew! Gross. But then, it’s not like
. God is going to eat any of this anyway.
DARREN The point is, that everything we have
. is because of God. To give back to God
. our very best, like when we tithe our
. offerings, it shows Him how thankful
. we are. God then blesses us for that.
(CAIN finishes and [mimes] places the basket down on
the ground in front of ABEL, as if that’s the altar area
but steps back with his hands on his hips,
like CAIN has no regard for what he just did.)
BROOK Ahhh, so that is why God appreciated
. the sacrifice that Abel gave. BUT because
. Cain gave God the rotten leftover fruit,
. God did not appreciate Cain’s sacrifice.
DARREN This made Cain very angry, and it
. started to show on the outside.
(With an angry sneer, CAIN watches ABEL get up and exit.)
BROOK So he was not only jealous and
. hated his brother, but it sounds like
. Cain really hated God.
DARREN AND because God wants to have
. a personal relationship with everyone,
. God spoke to Cain.
(As GOD speaks, CAIN crosses his arms in anger.)
GOD’S VOICE Why are you angry? It has begun to show
. on the outside. But if you change
. your attitude, it will change what you do.
. If you do not change your attitude,
. you will fall into sin. Sin is waiting
. for you, but you must choose to master it.
(CAIN starts to pace, thinking, angry...)
DARREN That sounds easy enough.
BROOK Yeah, and God was right there talking
. with him, and trying to help him.
(CAIN suddenly picks up his shovel and exits with anger.)
DARREN I think Cain has made a decision-
BROOK (covers eyes) Oh no, I can’t watch.
DARREN That’s not the answer! Killing someone!?
. How is that the answer? The problem
. was with his own attitude.
(CAIN enters, now with an evil smile. CAIN turns around
when he hears GOD’S VOICE.)
GOD’S VOICE (knowingly) Where is Abel your brother?
BROOK Oh, I know. God already knows the answer!
. God is just giving Cain a chance to confess
. his sins so he can reconcile with God
. and have a personal relationship with Him.
CAIN (with arrogant attitude)
. I do not know.
. Am I - my brother’s keeper?
DARREN Wrong answer! Still the wrong attitude!
GOD’S VOICE What have you done? The voice of your
. brother’s blood is crying to Me from
. the ground. (CAIN tries to ignore GOD)
. So now you are cursed from the ground.
. As you farm the land, it will no longer
. give you good crops. You will be a man
. without a home, wandering the earth.
(CAIN suddenly turns back to the VOICE with concern.)
CAIN That punishment is too much for me!
. Look, without my farm, and without Your
. protection, I’m sure if someone finds me,
. they will kill me.
BROOK Even Cain realizes that choosing
. not to be close to God is dangerous!
. Why would you NOT want to be close to God?
GOD’S VOICE I will make a sign for you, saying,
. that if anyone kills Cain, there will be
. severe vengeance. This will protect you.
CAIN I’m out of here.
(CAIN takes his shovel and exits.)
BROOK And look at that, Cain doesn’t even
. thank God for STILL protecting him?
. God did not have to do that.
DARREN Cain went away from God’s presence
. and settled in the land of Nod,
. east of Eden. Getting married,
. they had a son called Enoch.
BROOK What about poor Adam and Eve?
. They kind of lost both their sons.
. Their good son was killed, and
. the other son just left.
DARREN Adam and Eve had another son, named Seth.
. who had a son named Enosh. This family
. became a people who worshiped God.
(INCLUDE ENDING: unless going right into the next skit.)
(DARREN closes the Bible.)
DARREN It’s nice to see that someone back then
. chose to have a personal relationship
. with God.
BROOK I can’t wait to find out who else makes
. that decision. (exits while talking)
