.             Eph.3:14-21, 4:14, 1 Pet.2:21

.             running every which way, until they tire
Cast:         YOUTH 1 – 6  (2 & 3 could be one person)
Set & Props:  podium with Bible (the script can be
.             in the Bible for reference)

(There is a Bible on a podium at center stage.
YOUTH 1, 2, 3 enter stage left.)

Y 1   Do you ever get the feeling that you are just
.     walking around in circles?

Y 2   Or running and never getting anywhere?

Y 3   Definitely, there must be a reason why we are here
.     on this earth, right?  Some purpose?

Y 1   (pointing to podium)  What’s that over there?

Y 2   Want to check it out?

Y 3   Might as well, we check everything else out.

(YOUTH 1, 2, and 3 walk over.  YOUTH 1 reads.)

Y 2   What’s it say?

Y 1   (reading Romans 10:13) “For ‘WHOEVER WILL CALL

Y 3   Is there purpose?

Y 1   (reading 1 Peter 2:21)  “For you have been called
.     for this PURPOSE, since Christ also suffered
.     for you, leaving you an example for you to follow
.     in His steps.”
.                                                       2
Y 2   Sounds good.  I’m in.

Y 3   Me too.  Then what?

Y 1   (reading Galatians 5:1) “It was for freedom
.     that Christ set us free; therefore keep
.     standing firm and do not be subject again
.     to a yoke of slavery.”

Y 2   Ahhh, okay.

Y 3   Freedom from what?

Y 1   (shrugs, things, then...)  Well, I mean, I feel
.     like a weight’s been lifted off my shoulders,
.     you know?  Just standing here – is very
.     peaceful...  and reassuring.  I can see hope.
.     And – I can actually feel love.

Y 2   It is nice.

Y 3   But, don’t you feel like you’re missing something?

Y 1   Not even a little bit.

(YOUTH 4 rushes on at stage left.)

Y 4   Hey, if you’re bored over there, come check out
.     the bad movie down the street.

(YOUTH 3 rushes toward YOUTH 4.  YOUTH 5 steps out
at stage right.)

Y 5   Wow!  I’ve just heard the juiciest piece of gossip.
.     You’ll never believe this!

Y 2   What?  Oh, I want to hear this.

Y 3   Me, too.

(YOUTH 5 waves everyone to upper stage right.
YOUTH 2 and 3 follow eagerly.)

Y 5  Follow me.

Y 2  Tell us.
.                                                       3
(YOUTH 6 steps out at lower stage right.)

Y 6   Y’all want the latest iPhone?  I know a way
.     to get them for free.

Y 1   (standing still)  You mean, stealing.

Y 6   Not if you don’t get caught.  It doesn’t
.     hurt anyone.

(YOUTH 2 and 3 run toward YOUTH 6.)

Y 2   You’re just trying to trick us.

Y 3   I’m so confused, I don’t know what to do.

(YOUTH 5 runs after the group, pleading.)

Y 5   I can help with that.  I know where you can
.     get some magic meds which will clear
.     everything up for you.

Y 2   (stopping)  Drugs?

(YOUTH 4 steps back out.)

Y 4   Hey, why don’t you bring that with you,
.     and join us over here for a party.
.     There’s lot of love to go around.

Y 1   Hey, that’s the furthest thing from real love.

Y 5   You are really missing out, you realize.
.     All of us are having fun.

Y 1   Are you so sure about that?  Actually,
.     I’m way better off right here.  Even if I’d be
.     all by myself, I’d be way better off right here.

Y 2   How can you be so sure?

Y 1   Because I used to run in circles and not get
.     anywhere, and I was empty inside, wondering
.     if there was purpose to life.  Remember?
.     So why in the world, would you want to go back
.     to running in circles towards nothing?
.                                                       4
Y 6   Hey, if you want something to really believe in,
.     I can totally make something up.  And it would
.     sound way better, too.  Like, you have all...
.     the power to choose what you believe.

(YOUTH 2 and 3 now run toward YOUTH 6.)

Y 1   Anybody can make that up.

Y 6   Exactly.  So why do you think your belief system
.     is better than mine?

Y 1   Because I didn’t make it up, I believe in the words
.     sent to us from God.  (reading Eph.3:14-21)
.     “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,
.     from whom every family in heaven and on earth
.     derives its name, that He would grant you,
.     according to the riches of His glory, to be
.     strengthened with power through His Spirit
.     in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in
.     your hearts through faith; and that you,
.     being rooted and grounded in love,
.     may be able to comprehend with all the saints
.     what is the breadth and length and height
.     and depth, and to know the love of Christ
.     which surpasses knowledge, that you may
.     be filled up to all the fullness of God.
.     Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly
.     beyond all that we ask or think, according
.     to the power that works within us, to Him be
.     the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
.     to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”

Y 6   Wow, people can’t just make that stuff up.

Y 5   Amazing.  (to Y 2)  You believe this too?

Y 2   Ah, yeah.

Y 4   So if you had something so amazing, why would
.     you bother with all this empty, senseless,
.     harmful stuff?

Y 3   That’s a good question.  Come on.

(ALL follow YOUTH 1 out.)
