.             outside of the series, use this intro.

INTRODUCTION TO SKIT IF CONTINUING ON IN THE SERIES:

(DARREN and BROOK enter.  DARREN carries a Bible.)

BROOK         So, I need to know if Moses survives
.             in the wilderness, but more importantly,
.             I want to know how God helps His people.

DARREN        So you’re ready for imagination
.             time travel?

BROOK         Duh!

(DARREN holds the Bible up, while he and BROOK
both open the Bible together, eyes wide, excited
and looking around wondering what will happen.)

SCRIPT CONTINUES HERE AFTER INTRODUCTION OPTION:

(MOSES enters and stops to catch his breath.)

BROOK         Well, Moses is still alive.

DARREN        Surprising, since he was raised
.             as a prince, and he had everything
.             done for him.
.                                                       2
BROOK         Is that why he’s been trying to do things
.             in his own strength with his own bad ideas?
.             Killing that Egyptian guard was his idea.
.             Now he’s had to escape into the wilderness.

(MOSES takes a deep breath, then continues walking –
off the stage.)

BROOK         Now what?  Let’s jump ahead a bit.

DARREN        (reading)  He reaches the land of Midian.

(DARREN turns a page of the Bible, then JETHRO enters,
followed by MOSES and ZIPPORAH.)

ZIPPORAH      Father.  This is Moses.  The man
.             whom I was telling you about.

JETHRO        So, you are the Egyptian who saved
.             my seven daughters from those
.             ruthless shepherds?

MOSES         Ah, well, I’m actually not an Egyptian.
.             I’m an Israelite.

JETHRO        Interesting.  Why are you dressed
.             as an Egyptian?

ZIPPORAH      The point is – after those shepherds
.             chased away all our sheep – Moses helped
.             find and get all our sheep back –
.             AND helped give them all water.
.             You don’t find men like THIS every day.
.             And I intend to marry him.

JETHRO        Oh do you now.  Well, I must say –
.             he is not the worst choice.

ZIPPORAH      (teasing with disdain)  Father.

JETHRO        So, Moses, what do you do for a living?
.             I’ll just get right to it – how are you
.             going to support my daughter, Zipporah,
.             here?  What sort of experience do you have?

MOSES         I, ah, well, I – went to school.
.                                                       3
JETHRO        For what?

MOSES         Managing things, I guess.

JETHRO        You guess?  Well, whatever that means,
.             it looks like you know how to manage sheep,
.             at least.  I can give you a job as
.             a shepherd.  Why don’t you join me inside
.             where we can talk some more.

ZIPPORAH      Just go easy on him, Father.

(JETHRO ushers MOSES and ZIPPORAH off stage.)

BROOK         From a prince to being a shepherd?
.             Well, does he become a shepherd?

(DARREN turns a page in the Bible, and MOSES enters, now
wearing an Israelite robe and holding a shepherd staff.)

DARREN        (reading)  And there he is – Moses married
.             Zipporah, and they had a son named Gersom.
.             And one day while Moses was shepherding
.             a flock of sheep on a mountain side -
.             a bush nearby started burning with fire
.             but the bush did not burn up.

(MOSES suddenly looks out but has to shield his eyes,
as if he’s looking at something bright.)

BROOK         That would be weird to see.

GOD’S VOICE   Moses, Moses!

MOSES         (not knowing how to react)  Here I am.

DARREN        But it would be even weirder to hear God
.             speak to you.  Let’s go to the main
.             part of God’s message to Moses.

(DARREN turns a Bible page, and MOSES humbly kneels
and takes of his sandals.)

GOD’S VOICE   I have seen the affliction of My people
.             who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry
.             because of their sufferings.
.                                                       4
BROOK         So God is STILL going to use Moses!
.             Right?

(DARREN turns a Bible page.)

GOD’S VOICE   Come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh,
.             so that you may bring My people,
.             the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.

MOSES         But the Pharaoh wanted to have me killed.

GOD’S VOICE   Go back to Egypt, for all the men
.             who were seeking your life are dead.

MOSES         But, who am I to do that?

GOD’S VOICE   Certainly I will be with you!

BROOK         Wait a minute!  Does Moses argue with God?

(DARREN turns a page in the Bible.)

MOSES         But, my own people will question me.
.             What am I supposed to tell them?

BROOK         Now he’s giving excuses.

DARREN        (reading)  God tells Moses
.             exactly what to do and say.

MOSES         What if they will not believe me
.             or listen to what I say?

BROOK         What’s with all the excuses?

DARREN        I know I’ll keep making excuses just
.             to get out of doing something.  Anyway,
.             (reading)  God shows Moses how
.             to do a few miracles which will prove to
.             the people that God’s power is with Moses.

(DARREN turns a page in the Bible.)

MOSES         Please, Lord, I am not fluent in Hebrew-

BROOK         ANOTHER excuse!
.                                                       5
DARREN        (reading)  God tells Moses that
.             God will put the words in his mouth.

MOSES         Please, Lord, why don’t you just send
.             someone else with this message.

BROOK         Oh-oh. God has been very patient until now.
.             So what does God tell Moses next?

DARREN        (reading)  God lets Moses know that
.             his brother Aaron will help speak for him.

BROOK         Of course, Moses didn’t grow up
.             speaking Hebrew.  But still- God could have
.             helped him anyway.  I guess now
.             God is helping Moses by having Aaron
.             help him speak to the Israelites.

DARREN        Right. And Moses was to do everything else,
.             because Moses knew Egyptian.  AND because
.             God asked Moses to lead the people.

BROOK         Now, what about his wife and family?

DARREN        (reading)  Moses asked his father-in-law
.             permission to leave, and Jethro
.             let him go in peace.

BROOK         In peace?  Do you think there will be peace
.             when Moses faces the new Pharaoh and
.             asks that he let his slaves go?

DARREN        (reading)  God actually warns Moses
.             that Pharaoh’s heart will be hardened.
.             But God was going to let Moses know
.             everything he was supposed to say and do.

BROOK         And so Moses was in perfect obedience?

(DARREN turns a page in the Bible.  MOSES rushes out,
scared and in a lot of pain.  ZIPPORAH comes out
after him, but she is angry.)

MOSES         Ah! I’m dying.  There’s so much pain.
.             Why doesn’t it go away?  Make it stop!

ZIPPORAH      You should be okay now!                   6

MOSES         (feeling relief)  What - was wrong?
.             What was that painful dread?

ZIPPORAH      God was disciplining you!  You disobeyed
.             God - by not circumcising your son!
.             So I did what you were supposed to do.
.             You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me.
.             I hope you figure this out soon.

(ZIPPORAH turns to leave, but something catches her eye
off in the distance, then turns back to MOSES,
not as angry now.)

ZIPPORAH      Are you expecting anyone?
.             I can see a man approaching – over there.

(ZIIPPORAH points.  MOSES looks off in the distance.)

MOSES         That must be my brother, Aaron.
.             God was going to send Aaron out to help me.
.             Obviously I need help with things.
.             Obviously I need to focus on God.

ZIPPORAH      Well, you should go meet up with him, then.

(MOSES and ZIPORAH exit in opposite directions.)

(INCLUDE ENDING:  unless going right into the
next skit.)

(DARREN closes the Bible.)

BROOK         I’m curious how things are going to go
.             in Egypt.

DARREN        We will find out next time.
