NOTE:         ONE TIME INTRO:  when doing this skit
.             outside of the series, use this
intro.

INTRODUCTION TO SKIT IF CONTINUING ON IN THE SERIES:

(DARREN and BROOK enter.  DARREN carries a Bible.)

BROOK         Does the Jacob-story still continue?

DARREN        Ready for imagination time travel?

BROOK         Yeah.  I’m curious to see if things
.             are going well for Jacob and his family.

(DARREN holds the Bible up, while he and BROOK
both open the Bible together, eyes wide, excited
and looking around wondering what will happen.)

SCRIPT CONTINUES HERE AFTER INTRODUCTION OPTION:

(REUBEN and JUDAH enter, annoyed at each other.)

JUDAH         Reuben!

DARREN        (referring to the Bible, then to BROOK)
.             Okay, so these must be some sons
.             of Jacob – I mean – Israel.

JUDAH         (to REUBEN)  Reuben! Just because you are
.             the eldest, does not make you the boss.

REUBEN        But how many times does Father
.             have to scold us?

JUDAH         He does not scold us-                     2

REUBEN        He constantly has to tell us to put away
.             our foreign idols and get right with God.

JUDAH         It’s all because of that covenant thing.

REUBEN        Yeah, a covenant - with - God.
.             When we obey God, we will be blessed.

JUDAH         So where are the blessings?

REUBEN        Do you forget?  Father is very rich.
.             But if we want to be rich,
.             we must stop disappointing Father.
.             We must stop disappointing God.

JUDAH         We are not THAT bad.

REUBEN        Do you forget what we did back
.             in the city of Shechem
.             after our sister was raped by their prince?
.             Father was trying to make things right
.             with those people- who were willing-

JUDAH         Hey- it was Simeon and Levi
.             who killed them all.

REUBEN        But all of us brothers joined in
.             and looted the entire city.

JUDAH         Well, after that, wherever we moved,
.             our enemies were afraid of us.

REUBEN        I think that had more to do with
.             Father’s obedience and his prayers to God.

JUDAH         Well, I don’t see Father’s prayers
.             working now.  It seems we did a good job
.             of getting rid of Joseph.
.             Father’s favorite son!  I hate that
.             Father did not hide his feelings at all.
.             And giving Joseph that expensive coat –
.             was like rubbing salt into our eyes.
.             What is so great about Joseph anyway?
.             He was such an annoying brat.
.             And THEN he had those dreams about how
.             one day we would bow down to him.  Ha!

REUBEN        I wonder if he’s still alive?
.                                                       3
(While JUDAH and REUBEN think, BROOK turns to DARREN.)

BROOK         So how many sons did Jacob – I mean–
.             Israel - have?

DARREN        (looking at the Bible)  There are
.             twelve sons in total for Jacob – I mean–
.             Israel.  Let’s just call him Jacob!
.             Anyway two of the twelve sons:
.             Joseph and Benjamin are sons from Rachel.

BROOK         Ahhh, so Jacob’s favorite sons came from
.             his favorite wife.  The plot thickens.

(JUDAH and REUBEN stop wondering and look at each other.)

JUDAH         I can’t imagine that things would be good
.             for Joseph if he has stayed alive.
.             So I hope for his sake he’s dead.

REUBEN        You mean for our sake.  You just don’t want
.             Father to find out what really happened.

JUDAH         I was the one who suggested that Joseph
.             be sold into slavery, instead of just
.             leaving him behind in a deep pit to die.

REUBEN        I was the one to stop all of you
.             from killing him in the first place.
.             You just wanted to sell him so you
.             could get some money out of the deal.

JUDAH         Joseph basically spied on us, then reported
.             back to Father everything we did wrong.
.             So when he came looking for us again
.             out in the fields – it was payback time.
.             And as far as Father knows,
.             wild animals killed Joseph.

REUBEN        Except - we are STILL responsible
.             for crushing Father’s heart.

JUDAH         There is still our half-brother, Benjamin.
.             We know that those two sons
.             are Father’s favorite because
.             their mother was his favorite wife!
.             I thought things would get better for us
.             after Rachel died in childbirth.

REUBEN        Obviously you do not understand           4
.             true love, or about being responsible.

JUDAH         I AM not responsible?  You should talk!
.             You were with Father’s concubine!

REUBEN        I know – that was wrong.  Father was
.             not impressed, but he still forgave me.
.             But - now you - have brought shame
.             to the family.

JUDAH         How was I to know?

REUBEN        You should have raised your sons better.
.             Because of your sons disobedience,
.             your oldest son’s wife was
.             without children, which caused her
.             to take matters into her own hands.

JUDAH         How was I to know?

REUBEN        Well, you shouldn’t have done
.             what you did in the first place.

JUDAH         (sighing)  Are we being punished?

REUBEN        We’ve done a lot of stupid things
.             in our lives, haven’t we?

JUDAH         I mean, are we being punished extra
.             for what we did to our half-brother Joseph?

REUBEN        I don’t know if we’ll ever find out.
.             But, that’s all in the past.
.             Hopefully it stays there.  Meanwhile,
.             We have families to take care of.

(JUDAH and REUBEN walk off stge.)

(INCLUDE ENDING:  unless going right into the
next skit.)

(DARREN closes the Bible.)

BROOK         But is it just all in the past?
.             Is Joseph even still alive?

DARREN        I think we’re going to find that out
.             next time.

BROOK         I hope so.
