(DARREN and BROOK enter.  DARREN carries a Bible.)

BROOK         So last time Abram took matters
.             into his own hands and went to Egypt,
.             only to go back to where he had started.
.             I wonder if he’s going to start
.             trusting God a little more?

DARREN        We have to find out.  Ready for
.             imagination time travel?

BROOK         Let’s go.

(DARREN holds the Bible up, while he and BROOK
both open the Bible together, eyes wide, excited
and looking around wondering what will happen.)

(ABRAM and then LOT enter from stage right.)

BROOK         So what’s happening?

DARREN        Well, back in the Bethel and Ai area,
.             Abram and his wife, Sarai, and Lot
.             became very wealthy.  They were very rich
.             with livestock, as well as silver and gold.
.                                                       2
LOT           Abram, we are obviously running
.             out of land.  I’m not complaining.
.             It’s just that as we both keep getting
.             richer with more and more livestock,
.             our herdsmen keep fighting over
.             whose animals are going to eat where.

ABRAM         You’re right.  And since we are family,
.             I really do not want to fight.
.             And I don’t want our herdsmen to fight,
.             either.

LOT           So, do you have any ideas?

ABRAM         I think it’s time we split up.
.             Which land do you want to choose?
.             If you go to the left, then I will go
.             to the right;  or if you want the right,
.             then I will go to the left.  Your choice!

LOT           Hm...

(LOT thinks and looks around.)

BROOK         He’s going to take the best land,
.             isn’t he?

LOT           I will take the valley of the Jordan,
.             which is well watered everywhere.

BROOK         That area definitely looks way better.

(LOT exits stage left.)

DARREN        Well, Lot went eastward to live in
.             the city of Sodom.  And Abram got Canaan.

BROOK         We’re talking about those Canaanites again?

DARREN        Yeessss, but not yet.  We have to first
.             talk about the people of Sodom, who were
.             very, very wicked and sinners against God.

(ABRAM kneels in prayer.)

BROOK         So what is Abram doing?

DARREN        Oh, God showed Abram the entire land which
.             would be belong to his people forever.
.                                                       3
BROOK         So the Canaanites were NOT giving him
.             trouble just yet?

DARREN        Not yet.  But meanwhile, Lot had
.             his troubles.

BROOK         Maybe he shouldn’t have taken
.             the best land.  So what was happening?

DARREN        There were two groups of kings who
.             were at war.  The one group of kings,
.             led by the king of Elam – fought
.             against another group of kings,
.             which included the king of Sodom.
.             The first group won the war, and went
.             into the cities, which included Sodom.
.             They took all of their food and riches-
.             AND they took Lot and his household.

BROOK         I guess they took Lot because Lot
.             was very rich.

(FUGITIVE rushes on from stage left.  Seeing ABRAM still
on his knees, he rushes up to ABRAM.  ABRAM looks up.)

BROOK         Who is that?

FUGITIVE      Abram?  Abram the Hebrew?

ABRAM         Yes, what is wrong?

FUGITIVE      I am from the household of Lot.

ABRAM         Is Lot doing well?

FUGITIVE      No, not at all.  Our city was captured.
.             The King of Elam, with a bunch of other
.             kings, took everything from several
.             of our cities, and all the riches, and
.             they took Lot and his household captive.
.             I managed to escape.  I am here to ask
.             if you could help us.

ABRAM         Yes, I can.  We will have to go to war.
.             My household is large.  Over time,
.             I have built up a trained army.  As well,
.             I have a few good friends who will help out
.             with their armies as well.  Let’s go.

(FUGITIVE leads ABRAM off stage left.)                  4

DARREN        Abram and his friends divided
.             and conquered the enemies, saving
.             Lot and all the people of the cities,
.             such as Sodom.

(ABRAM enters from stage left, followed by LOT,

LOT           Thanks for helping us out!

KING          As the King of Sodom, I would like
.             to thank you, Abram.

ABRAM         We will thank our God Most High
.             for this victory.

KING          Yeah, sure.  But I would like to thank you
.             by letting you keep all the riches that
.             came from all our people and our cities.
.             Just let me keep all the people,
.             and you can have everything else.

ABRAM         That is extremely thoughtful, but,
.             I promised the LORD God Most High,
.             that I would NOT take anything of yours.

KING          Most strange.  Why would you do that?

ABRAM         I do not want you to be able to say
.             that - YOU have made me rich.
.             Everything that I have - comes from God.

KING          Interesting, but okay.  No problem.  I can
.             respect that.  We will be on our way, then.

(KING and FUGITIVE exits stage left.)

LOT           Thanks again, Abram.  I just cannot
.             understand why you would not accept
.             the king’s reward.

ABRAM         I know that God will protect me,
.             as well as reward me.

LOT           Very trusting of you.  A little strange,
.             but – very trusting.

(LOT waves and exits stage left.)
.                                                       5
BROOK         So Abram does learn to trust God more.

(ABRAM waves and exits stage right.)

DARREN        I guess that’s how it is with us.
.             The more we see God working in our lives,
.             the more we learn to trust God.

(INCLUDE ENDING:  unless going right into the
next skit.)

(DARREN closes the Bible.)

BROOK         I just wonder how God is going to reward
.             Abram.

DARREN        Maybe we’ll find out about that next time.

(BROOK and DARREN exit.)
