SCRIPT:

(ANIA and ELA enter.  There is a bandage on ANIA’S face.)

ANIA       Hi Ela.  I am so glad to see you!

ELA        What happened to you?

ANIA       Nothing.

ELA        Nothing?  You have a bandage on your face.

ANIA       Oh, that.  It’s nothing.

ELA        Ania, it is obviously something.

ANIA       It’s a long story.

ELA        Are you going to tell me about it?
.                                                       2
ANIA       I do not really want to.

ELA        Why is that?  This is now
.          making me very concerned.

ANIA       I’m afraid that the person who did this
.          will hear that I told someone, and then
.          they might do something worse to me.

ELA        But that is why you SHOULD tell someone.
.          You need to tell an adult-
.          someone that you trust.

ANIA       I do not see the point.

ELA        What?  Why is that?

ANIA       The person who keeps picking on me
.          keeps getting away with it.
.          I have heard about bad people
.          getting away with doing bad things.

ELA        At some point, there will be justice.

ANIA       Do you really believe that?

(ELA thinks about this a bit.)

ELA        I – think I do.  But what I DO know,
.          is that you need to tell an adult,
.          someone that you trust.

ANIA       I will think about it.

ELA        Look, how can there be any justice
.          or how can anything be done to help you
.          if you do not tell anybody.

ANIA       This is true.  That still does not change
.          the fact that I’m afraid.

ELA        Hm, well, we going to hear more about
.          that true story from our friend today.
.          I wonder if this Bible story
.          will have any answers to this problem?

ANIA       I hope so.                                   3

(NARRATOR enters and stands at stage right.)

ELA        Hello, (Name).  Are we going to continue
.          the true story about Moses?

NARRATOR   Hello Ela and Ania, and everyone else.
.          Yes, we are going to continue the true story
.          from the Bible about Moses.  Remember,
.          Moses had been called by God to help
.          free the Israelites, God’s chosen people.
.          Because God was with Moses and the Israelites,
.          they did not have to be afraid about anything.

ANIA       That’s right, the Israelites were slaves.
.          Isn’t that kind of like being bullied?

NARRATOR   Very much so!  They were constantly bullied
.          and picked on by Pharaoh and the Egyptians,
.          and forced to work really hard, but
.          the Israelites knew that God is all-powerful,
.          and that God would bring justice!
.          They just had to learn how to call on God,
.          be patient, and trust God.

ANIA       But they never told anybody that they were
.          being bullied.

NARRATOR   There was no one they could tell – except God.
.          But if you can, it is important that you tell
.          a person you trust that you’re being bullied,
.          as well as God.  God uses people to help, just
.          like God used Moses to help the Israelites.

ANIA       Oh, story time!  I’m now going to sit down
.          and listen!

(ANIA and ELA exit.)

NARRATOR   When the time was right, Moses went to Pharaoh
.          and said-

(PHARAOH and MOSES enter.)

MOSES      Pharaoh, this is what God says to you,
.          Let my people go!
.                                                       4
PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

MOSES      Whenever you refuse to obey, God will send
.          a plague on you and Egypt as punishment.

PHARAOH    Really?  Well, just for that - I will
.          make the Israelites work even harder.

(MOSES turns and exits.  PHARAOH then exits.)

NARRATOR   And so - the Israelites were picked on
.          even more, and made to work even harder.
.          But God had a plan.  Moses was to go
.          to Pharaoh with God’s command.
.          And each time Pharaoh refused to obey,
.          God would send a plague to punish Pharaoh,
.          and the rest of the land and people of Egypt.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well, with that, God sent the first plague:
.          God turned all the water in Egypt –
.          to blood, and all the fish died.

PHARAOH    Guard!  Guard!

GUARD      (entering)  Yes, Pharaoh?

PHARAOH    I need water.  I am thirsty.

GUARD      (calls out to ASSISTANT)  Slave!  Slave!
.          Bring the Pharaoh some water!

(ASSISTANT 1 enters with a clear cup with a lid
filled with red liquid and holds it out to PHARAOH.
PHARAOH sees it, and runs away yelling “Ahhhhh...”
ASSISTANT exits with the water.)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being         5
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Now Moses went to Pharaoh a second time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the second plague:  frogs!
.          Many frogs!  They were everywhere!  Outside –
.          AND inside.  You could not walk, sit or sleep
.          without finding frogs.

(ASSISTANTS “Croak!  Ribbit-ribbit!  Croak!”
PHARAOH runs around, panicking.)

PHARAOH    Frogs!  More frogs!  They’re everywhere.
.          (exits while yelling “Ahhhhh...”)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a third time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the third plague: gnats!
.          Tiny little annoying gnats everywhere.
.          (swat at the air, pretend to brush them off)

(ASSITANTS do a high-pitched “Buzzzz...” sound.)        6

PHARAOH    (fussing, jumping around)  Guard!  Guard!

(GUARD enters fussing and jumping around.)

PHARAOH    Get them off of me! Get them off of me!

(GUARD tries to blow them away while swinging around,
arms flailing and maybe thwacking PHARAOH.
PHARAOH runs away with GUARD yelling “Ahhhhh...”)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a fourth time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the fourth plague: flies.
.          Swarms and swarms of flies!  (swat at the air)

(ASSISTANTS do a low-pitched “Buzzzz...” sound.)

PHARAOH    (annoyed, shaking head)  Guard!  Guard!

(GUARD enters while talking and bumps into PHARAOH.)

GUARD      Yes!  Pharaoh!  Sorry!

PHATAOH    Get these flies away from me!

GUARD      I- I can’t- see.  There are too many flies!

(GUARD keeps bumping into PHARAOH.  GUARD could use
flyswatter to swat at PHARAOH who says “Ouch” every time.
PHARAOH runs away with GUARD yelling “Ahhhhh...”)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being         7
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a fifth time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Okay, maaaybe you can take your people,
.          the Israelites, and go worship your God.
.          But you cannot go too far away.  In fact,
.          I change my mind.  My answer is - noooooo.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the fifth plague:
.          all of the Egyptian’s animals died.
.          So the animals sounded like this,
.          getting sicker and sicker –

(ASSISTANTS “Mooo, neigh, baa” with a sicker and
sicker sound until they die and are quiet.)

PHARAOH    Guard!  Guard!

GUARD      (entering)  Yes, Pharaoh?

PHARAOH    I want some meat.  I am very hungry.
.          And what is that horrible smell?

GUARD      Ah, all of the animals are dead, Pharaoh.

PHARAOH    I will be in my room – waiting - until
.          you bring me some meat!  I’m so hungry!

GUARD      I’m – I’m starving too- but-
.          there’s no more meat!
.          I can bring you some vegetables.

PHARAOH    I’m getting sick of vegetables!

(PHARAOH and GUARD exit, moaning with hunger.)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being         8
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a sixth time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the sixth plague:
.          God sent boils!  On the Egyptian people and
.          their remaining animals.  These are big,
.          awful, painful sores!  And these awful sores
.          covered the skin of all Egyptians.

(While NARRATOR has been talking, ASSISTANTS quickly
help to stick spots all over PHARAOH and the GUARD.)

PHARAOH    (enters)  “Guard! Guard!

GUARD      (enters while yelling)  Ahhhhh...

(As PHARAOH and GUARD bump into each other, they say
“Ouch-Ouch! Don’t touch me! It hurts...” etc. then exit.)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a seventh time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)
.                                                       9
NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the seventh plague: hail!
.          The big pieces of falling ice fell over
.          all the land and killed most of the crops
.          and plants.  And the hail came.

(ASSISTANTS throw wads of paper at PHARAOH and GUARD, who
run around yelling, “Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!...”)

GUARD      Ow!  Well- ow!  Look at it this way, ouch!
.          There’ll be less vegetables to eat!  Ow!

(PHARAOH and GUARD exit while yelling “Ahhhhh...”)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh an eighth time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Well, maaaybeee I will let the men go,
.          but the women and children have to stay here!
.          Or - on second thought – I saaay – no!

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the eighth plague:
.          locusts.  Locusts are insects very much like
.          grasshoppers, which eat everything in sight!
.          Whatever plants were left after the hail-
.          the locusts ate it all up.

(ASSISTANTS throw plastic bugs at PHARAOH and GUARD,
who run around yelling, “Ahhhhh...”)

GUARD      Ew!  Well- look at the bright side -
.          no more vegetables!  Or bread!

PHARAOH    But now what are we going to eat?

(PHARAOH and GUARD exit while yelling “Ahhhhh...”)
.                                                      10
NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a ninth time.

(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.)

NARRATOR   Well then, God sent the ninth plague:
.          darkness!  Even in the daytime, it would be
.          so very dark all over Egypt.  The Egyptians
.          would not be able to see for three days!

(ASSISTANTS put blindfolds over PHARAOH’S and GUARD’S
eyes, or they just pretend that they cannot see.
PHARAOH [enters] walking around, bumping into things.)

PHARAOH    Guard!  Guard!  Are you there?

(GUARD enters and looks in the wrong direction.)

GUARD      Is that you, Pharaoh?

PHARAOH    Who else would I be?  But- wait- who’re you?

GUARD      I’m the guard.

PHARAOH    Where are you?  Get over here!

GUARD      I’m – looking.

(PHARAOH and GUARD exit as they wander randomly.)

NARRATOR   The Israelites could see Egypt being
.          punished, but God kept the Israelites safe.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Moses went to Pharaoh a tenth time.
.                                                      11
(MOSES enters, then PHARAOH enters to face MOSES.)

PHARAOH    What do you want?

MOSES      God says, “Let my people go!”

PHARAOH    Ahhhhhh-no.

(MOSES turns and exits.  Then PHARAOH exits.)

NARRATOR   Pharaoh still had not learned.  Next time
.          we will see what the tenth plague was.
.          Only God could send those plagues to Egypt,
.          to punish the bad people - while still
.          protecting His people from all of that.
.          Knowing that God is powerful, they did
.          not have to be afraid of anything!
.          Even though we may not be Israelites,
.          God still loves us and wants us to be
.          His people.  When we believe in God,
.          and ask Jesus into our hearts,
.          we will become children of God forever,
.          and nothing can separate us from Him.
.          Knowing that God is all-powerful,
.          we do not have to be afraid of anything!
.          (close story in a prayer)

(OPTION TO BREAK OUT INTO SMALLER GROUPS TO MAKE A CRAFT,
SUCH AS A FLOWER, TO REMIND US HOW GOD IS POWERFUL.
AS THE CREATOR OF EVERYTHING, HE HAS POWER OVER NATURE.
THEN GO TO THIS ENDING, OR GO STRAIGHT TO THIS ENDING
TO CLOSE OUT THE SESSION...)

NARRATOR   Next time, we will find out
.          what the tenth plague was,
.          and more about God’s plans for Moses
.          and the Israelites.
