DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY - written by Tanis Harms
TOPIC:      grace, choices, discipline
SCRIPTURE:  Jude, Romans 6:15-18
Style:      drama/conversation:  men discuss their desire
.           to represent God even though they have
.           the “freedom” to sin
Cast:       MEN 1, 2, 3

(MAN 1 approaches MAN 2 and 3.)

MAN 1   Hey guys, let’s go party.  There’s a really cool
.       stripper bar down the street.

MAN 2   Ahh, it’s not really my scene.

MAN 3   (to MAN 1)  It really shouldn’t be yours either.

MAN 1   What do you mean?
.       (mocking)  Because we’re Christians?
.       Look at it this way, we’re ambassadors.
.       No matter what we do, we’re going to heaven.
.       Sooo, as ambassadors we have diplomatic immunity.

MAN 3   We’re still supposed to be holy.

MAN 1   We already ARE holy - in God’s eyes.

MAN 3   We should act like it BECAUSE we’re ambassadors.

MAN 1   Come on.  Jesus experienced all the same temptations.
.       He totally understands.

(Nodding some agreement, MAN 2 starts to go with MAN 1,
but stops when MAN 3 talks.)

MAN 3   But as ambassadors, we chose to represent God.
.       We should WANT to best represent God
.       because we love Him.  Remember everything God
.       has done for us:  leaving heaven
.       in order to suffer and die for our sins-

(MAN 2 returns to stand beside MAN 1.)
.                                                          2
MAN 1   Because He loves us so much He wants us
.       to have some fun.

MAN 3   Fun? You call getting down in the dirt
.       and the manure of sin – fun?  At best,
.       it is temporary, and empty, and will leave you
.       feeling guilty.  God wants us to have real fun.
.       God doesn’t tell us to stay away
.       from certain things because He wants us to suffer.
.       He tells us to stay away from certain things
.       to protect us and so we can have the most amazing
.       life possible.  He created us, so He knows
.       how we work, and what’s the best way
.       to find success, rewards and happiness.

MAN 1   Eh, I’m not the type who needs little "gold stars"
.       to feel good about myself.  Whatever.  I’m going.

MAN 3   Also remember:  God disciplines His children!
.       You may be going to heaven, but there ARE still
.       consequences right here on earth.

MAN 1   So MAY-be I’ll think about it.

(MAN 1 returns to stand by MAN 2 and 3. They all face
the congregation.)

MAN 3   Hebrews 12:4-6 tells us,
.       “In your struggle against sin,
.       you have not yet resisted
.       to the point of shedding your blood.
.       And you have forgotten that word of encouragement
.       that addresses you as sons:  My son,
.       do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
.       and do not lose heart when He rebukes you,
.       because the Lord disciplines those He loves,
.       and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son."
