(ISSUE 1.)

TEEN 1   Hey, are you going to Melissa’s event?
.        I hear they’re planning a scavenger hunt
.        unlike any other!  You know - NOT for babies.

TEEN 2   No way.  I’ve heard a bit about what they’re
.        going to do, and - I’m really not interested.

TEEN 1   Really?  It’s going to be off the hook.

TEEN 2   I thought you had to babysit your
.        little brother.

TEEN 1   Oh, I’m taking him with me.  He’s all into it,
.        and promised to keep his mouth shut.

TEEN 2   Why do YOU even want to go?

TEEN 1   I’m not going planning on doing any
.        of the illegal stuff.  And I’ll make sure
.        that my brother doesn’t leave my side - ever.

TEEN 2   How can you guarantee that?  Are you
.        going to handcuff yourselves together?
.                                                       2
TEEN 1   Funny!

TEEN 2   Scary!  You’ll be exposing your brother
.        to stuff that he might not be able to handle
.        or understand.  And he might think because
.        you’re going, that it means you don’t think
.        anything is wrong with what’s happening
.        all around you.

TEEN 1   It’ll be - educational.

TEEN 2   It’ll be dangerous.  Everything is not
.        under your control, and if anything DOES happen-
.        you’re responsible for him.

READER   Matthew 18:6 “but whoever causes one of these
.        little ones who believe in Me to stumble,
.        it would be better for him to have
.        a heavy millstone hung around his neck,
.        and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

(SCENE 2.)

TEEN 1   I’ve been invited to a Halloween party.
.        Did - you want to go with me?

TEEN 2   Ahhh, I personally don’t celebrate Halloween.
.        I’m not going to judge you if you’re into-
.        getting dressed up and getting candy, but-

TEEN 1   So you would NEVER go to a Halloween party?

TEEN 2   That depends, what sort of party is it?
.        Like – what are they all planning to do?

TEEN 1   Well-

TEEN 2   You actually don’t seem too thrilled about it.

TEEN 1   I’m – kind of uncomfortable, ‘cause I’ve heard
.        that they’re going to play with Ouija boards,
.        and do horoscopes and have a séance-

TEEN 2   Ew!  No, thank you!  I don’t think they really
.        know what they are actually dealing with.
.        I would NEVER mess around with that stuff.
.                                                       3
TEEN 1   That’s what I was kind of thinking.

READER   Deuteronomy 18:9-13 “When you enter the land
.        which the Lord your God gives you,
.        you shall not learn to imitate
.        the detestable things of those nations.
.        There shall not be found among you anyone
.        who makes his son or his daughter pass through
.        the fire, one who uses divination,
.        one who practices witchcraft,
.        or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
.        or one who casts a spell, or a medium,
.        or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
.        For whoever does these things is detestable
.        to the Lord; and because of these
.        detestable things - the Lord your God
.        will drive them out before you.  You shall
.        be blameless before the Lord your God.”

(SCENE 3.)

TEEN 1   We’re watching a horror movie tonight.
.        Want to join us?

TEEN 2   Horror?  Or do you mean suspense?

TEEN 1   Ah, well, it’s about a haunted house-

TEEN 2   Say no more.  Not interested.

TEEN 1   Are you SCARED?

TEEN 2   Yeah!  Don’t you realize?  Demons actually exit.
.        I know someone who was messing around
.        in the occult for a while

TEEN 1   Yeah?  Cool!  What do they say about it?

TEEN 2   NOT cool.  They say – stay away from it!

READER   Ephesians 5:11-12 “Do not participate
.        in the unfruitful deeds of darkness,
.        but instead even expose them;
.        for it is disgraceful even to speak of
.        the things which are done by them in secret.”

(SCENE 4.)                                              4

TEEN 1   Hey, haven’t seen you in church in a while.

TEEN 2   I’ve been going to a different sort of church
.        with a friend.

TEEN 1   Different sort of church?  What are you
.        talking about?

TEEN 2   I just thought I’d try out something new.
.        It’s that - temple-thing down the road.

TEEN 1   What?  What are you thinking?

TEEN 2   Well, their beliefs are KIND of the same.

TEEN 1   Ah, actually, they’re not.  They do not
.        believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

TEEN 2   Well, they don’t exactly teach on that.

TEEN 1   Exactly!  When one looks around for a church,
.        you have to ask them for their doctrinal
.        statements, which means – all the truths
.        that they believe in.  If they are really
.        Christian, they would believe that the Bible
.        is the infallible word of God;  that Jesus
.        is the Son of God;  and that only through
.        Jesus you can get to heaven.  Some churches
.        insist that it is by works, or partially
.        by works.  And if they have changed the Bible
.        in any way – they’re not Christian.

TEEN 2   Good to know.

TEEN 1   So, hopefully you’ll be back at our church
.        on Sunday.

READER   1 Corinthians 10:20-21 “No, but I say
.        that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice,
.        they sacrifice to demons and not to God;
.        and I do not want you to become
.        sharers in demons.  You cannot drink
.        the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons;
.        you cannot partake of the table of the Lord
.        and the table of demons.”
.                                                       5
(SCENE 5.)

TEEN 1   Hey, where you going?

TEEN 2   I’m doing yoga.

TEEN 1   The yoga that is only stretching and stuff?

TEEN 2   I don’t know.  This is my first time.  Why?

TEEN 1   If it’s just the sport of it, it’s okay.
.        But just like judo, and some other martial arts,
.        some yoga instructors make it about
.        the religion.

TEEN 2   It’s a religion?

TEEN 1   Yeah, you’ll know if they start encouraging
.        you to meditate on certain words-
.        stuff like that.

TEEN 2   Thanks for the heads-up.  I’ll make sure to ask.

READER   1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 “But examine everything
.        carefully;  hold fast to that which is good;
.        abstain from every form of evil.”

(SCENE 6.)

TEEN 1   (wearing armband)  What’s up?

TEEN 2   What’s up with you?  What are you wearing?

TEEN 1   Don’t know what you’re talking about.

TEEN 2   Really?  Come on.  You’re wearing-
.        that armband.

TEEN 1   Oh yeah, it’s cool, isn’t it?

TEEN 2   Not really.  It’s the symbol of the local gang.
.        Do you want people to think you are part
.        of that gang?

TEEN 1   At least I’ll be feared and respected.

TEEN 2   Or the police will pull you over               6
.        and check you out.  And all the good people
.        will avoid you.  And the gang people will
.        want to talk with you-

TEEN 1   All right.  (takes off armband)  Happy now?

TEEN 2   Much!  Why would you even want to appear
.        to be like one of them?  You do you know
.        what they’re all known for?  It’s not good.
.        And I know you’re not about that.

READER   3 John 1:11 “Beloved, do not imitate
.        what is evil, but what is good.
.        The one who does good is of God;
.        the one who does evil has not seen God.”

(SCENE 7.)

TEEN 1   Are you following me?

TEEN 2   No.  Why’re you so jumpy?

TEEN 1   No reason.

TEEN 2   And why are you hanging out with that crowd?
.        I heard they got caught shoplifting.

TEEN 1   I’m- not- doing any of that.

TEEN 2   Are you sure?  Because I know the pressure
.        they can put on people to do what they want.

READER   Romans 13:12 “The night is almost gone,
.        and the day is near.  Therefore
.        let us lay aside the deeds of darkness
.        and put on the armor of light.”

(SCENE 8.)

TEEN 1   Hey!  I saw you cheating on the test today.

TEEN 2   Aw, come on, it’s not such a big deal.

TEEN 1   It is.  You could fail that course,
.        or be kicked out of school.

TEEN 2   Only if I get caught.                          7

TEEN 1   But it’s wrong.

TEEN 2   Look, I could actually learn that stuff, if I
.        really wanted to, but I just don’t have time.
.        So, I’m only cutting a few corners.

TEEN 1   I know you know better than that.
.        You’re cheating yourself.  It’s like
.        you’re stealing an education from yourself.

TEEN 2   See?  So it’s not like I’m hurting anyone.

TEEN 1   Unless a teacher grades on a bell-curve!

TEEN 2   Are you trying to make me feel guiltier
.        than I already do?

READER   1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whether, then,
.        you eat or drink or WHATEVER you do,
.        do all to the glory of God.”

(SCENE 9.)

TEEN 1   Want to do something on Friday night?

TEEN 2   I’m going to a dance.  And don’t judge me!

TEEN 1   Okay.  So what kind of dance?

TEEN 2   Dancing’s not wrong!

TEEN 1   I know.  David danced unto the Lord!
.        Are you going to be dancing unto the Lord?
.        Square-dancing?  Polka?  Any other innocent
.        type-dancing?  Ballet?

TEEN 2   Regular dancing is not that bad.

TEEN 1   So this kind of dancing is something
.        that you could do in front of your parents?
.        Or God?  Because you know God will be there!

TEEN 2   Aw!  Forget it.  Okay.  Well?
.        What did YOU want to do this Friday?

READER   James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion        8
.        in the sight of our God and Father is this:
.        to visit orphans and widows in their distress,
.        and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”

(SCENE 10.)

TEEN 1   Hey, I want to show you this website-

TEEN 2   (wary)  What is it?

TEEN 1   It’s– ah- you know-

TEEN 2   Forget it!

TEEN 1   What?  Are you a priest/nun?

TEEN 2   What you put in your mind now, especially
.        stuff like THAT, it will be with you forever.
.        And it will take away from whatever
.        you share with your future wife/husband.

TEEN 1   So, you’re a sissy.

TEEN 2   No, I’m just trying to stay faithful
.        to my future wife/husband.  That stuff
.        is fake anyway, as well as addictive.
.        It will really mess you up, you know.

READER   1 Corinthians 6:18-20 “Flee immorality.
.        Every other sin that a man commits
.        is outside the body, but the immoral man
.        sins against his own body.  Or do you not know
.        that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit
.        who is in you, whom you have from God,
.        and that you are not your own?
.        For you have been bought with a price:
.        therefore glorify God in your body.”

(SCENE 11.)

TEEN 1   Did I just see you smoking?
.        I thought you quit?

TEEN 2   I did.

TEEN 1   Well, why did you start up again?
.                                                       9
TEEN 2   I just, kind of missed it.

TEEN 1   Which part?  The stink?  The waste of money?
.        The higher risk of getting lung cancer?

TEEN 2   Very funny.

TEEN 1   Except that it isn’t.  Do you forget
.        how hard it was to quit?

TEEN 2   Look, show me in the Bible how smoking
.        is wrong?

TEEN 1   There’s nothing GOOD about smoking.
.        It damages the body.  And we are supposed to
.        be good stewards of what God has given to us,
.        which includes taking good care of our bodies.

READER   Galatians 4:8-9 “However at that time,
.        when you did not know God, you were slaves
.        to those which by nature are no gods.
.        But now that you have come to know God,
.        or rather to be known by God, how is it
.        that you turn back again to the weak
.        and worthless elemental things, to which
.        you desire to be enslaved all over again?”

(SCENE 12.)

TEEN 1   Hey, haven’t seen you around in a long time.

TEEN 2   (holding arm)  Oh, yeah, I’ve been busy.

TEEN 1   Doing what?

TEEN 2   Trying to beat my score.

TEEN 1   Are you addicted to Video Games?

TEEN 2   I’m not doing anything wrong.

TEEN 1   Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun -
.        but - check out your crippled hand, there.

TEEN 2   It – will – get better.  This is just
.        until I get the highest score.
.                                                      10
TEEN 1   Sure, and then someone else will
.        beat your score- and it will never end.
.        Life in moderation, you know?
.        So, let me ask, besides things like
.        sloughing off school assignments,
.        or doing chores, how’s your prayer life?
.        And are you spending any time in devotions?

TEEN 2   Nothing in the game is evil.

TEEN 1   But after all your time spent –
.        living in the game - all you’ll know how to do-
.        is make a video-dude jump over things.

READER   Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed
.        to this world, but be transformed
.        by the renewing of your mind, so that you
.        may prove what the will of God is, that
.        which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

(SCENE 13.)

TEEN 1   I can get the car and we can hit the beach
.        on Saturday.

TEEN 2   Your parents will let you?

TEEN 1   No, not for that, but I’ll just tell them
.        I’m going to the library to study.

TEEN 2   How is lying to your parents a good idea?

TEEN 1   It’s only a little white lie.

TEEN 2   A lie - is a lie.  And, if they find out,
.        it will be a long time before they can
.        ever trust you again.

TEEN 1   So, they just better not find out.

TEEN 2   I’ve seen this sort of thing happen,
.        where one little lie keeps growing and growing,
.        with more and more lies...  until you can’t
.        even keep track of them all, and in the end –
.        they will somehow find out anyway.

READER   Philippians 1:27 “Only conduct yourselves     11
.        in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ,
.        so that whether I come and see you
.        or remain absent, I will hear of you
.        that you are standing firm in one spirit,
.        with one mind striving together
.        for the faith of the gospel”

(SCENE 14.)

TEEN 1   Did I just hear you swear?

TEEN 2   What, back there?

TEEN 1   Yeah!  I heard you.  You even took
.        God’s name in vain.

TEEN 2   It’s not like I talk that way in church.

TEEN 1   So you’re a hypocrite?

TEEN 2   Look, God’s grace covers all our sins.  Right?
.        I’m a Christian, and I’m going to heaven.
.        Nothing I do will change that.

TEEN 1   But there ARE consequences here on earth.

TEEN 2   What could possibly be the consequences
.        for bad language?

TEEN 1   For starts, you’re seen as a hypocrite.

TEEN 2   How is that hypocritical?

TEEN 1   You end your prayers by saying, “In Your
.        Holy and precious name...”  So I’m now curious,
.        do you really respect God’s name?  Is it really
.        precious to you?  Or are you being hypocritical?

READER   Romans 12:9 “Let love be without hypocrisy.
.        Abhor what is evil;  cling to what is good.”

(SCENE 15.)

TEEN 1   Wait up, you have to hear this!

TEEN 2   Is it gossip?
.                                                      12
TEEN 1   No, it’s just- something that- happened-
.        to someone.  And, we SHOULD be concerned
.        about people - then we can pray about it.

TEEN 2   So it’s gossiping!

TEEN 1   What is your problem?

TEEN 2   Would you want someone saying these things
.        about you?

TEEN 1   Nooo.  But it wouldn’t be true about me.

TEEN 2   What if this gossip you just heard is not true?
.        THEN you’d be slandering them.  And that-
.        is not only wrong, but it’s actually illegal.

TEEN 1   Chill out.

TEEN 2   Look, I’ve had some really mean things said
.        about me.  I know how much it can hurt.  And
.        I’ve heard about gossip that has ruined lives.
.        Gossip is one of those things that can seem
.        so innocent – but it really is evil
.        and destructive.

TEEN 1   How is this so evil?

TEEN 2   Anything that goes against what God has
.        commanded us - is giving in to evil.
.        It’s very clear in the Bible –
.        we are NOT supposed to gossip.

READER   Ephesians 6:11-18 “Put on the full armor of God,
.        so that you will be able to stand firm
.        against the schemes of the devil.
.        For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,
.        but against the rulers, against the powers,
.        against the world forces of this darkness,
.        against the spiritual forces of wickedness
.        in the heavenly places.  Therefore,
.        take up the full armor of God, so that you
.        will be able to resist in the evil day,
.        and having done everything, to stand firm:”
.        with truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace;
.        faith, salvation, the word of God, and prayer.
.                                                      13
(SCENE 16.)

TEEN 1   YOU listen to screamo?

TEEN 2   It’s actually Christian screamo.

TEEN 1   How can anything like that be Christian?

TEEN 2   Because the words glorify God.

TEEN 1   If you can HEAR the words.  All I hear
.        is someone trying to copy the world.

TEEN 2   Well, you don’t have to like it.
.        And you can choose not to listen to it,
.        but don’t judge me if I do.

TEEN 1   We are supposed to exhort one another.

TEEN 2   Only if one has actually committed a sin.
.        Can you show me a Bible verse that says I have?

TEEN 1   Just the one about “appearing like the world.”

TEEN 2   That verse is actually talking about
.        not being selfish like the world.
.        As Christians, we are supposed to show
.        God’s love to the world, which will
.        shine out into the darkness and
.        prove that we are not part of it.

TEEN 1   But- then- I’m confused.  Shouldn’t we
.        have set-standards?

TEEN 2   Look, there are God’s basic standards-
.        which are for all people.  And sometimes
.        it’s good to set extra personal standards
.        for ourselves.  But we cannot expect others
.        to live according to our personal standards.
.        That is what the Pharisees tried to do,
.        but THAT did not impress Jesus at all.
.        In fact, Jesus even called the Pharisees
.        “EVIL vipers.”  It’s very interesting
.        that amongst the things considered EVIL,
.        is - complaining, self-righteousness
.        and a critical spirit.
.                                                      14
READER   1 Timothy 4:1-5 “But the Spirit explicitly says
.        that in later times some will fall away
.        from the faith, paying attention to
.        deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
.        by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared
.        in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
.        men who forbid marriage and advocate
.        abstaining from foods which God has created
.        to be gratefully shared in by those who believe
.        and know the truth.  For everything created
.        by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected
.        if it is received with gratitude;
.        for it is sanctified by means
.        of the word of God and prayer.”
