PERSON    Hi, I’m Arizona Jones, archaeologist – from -
.         New Jersey.  For as long as I can remember,
.         I had been searching for – what I thought was –
.         the all-illusive “assurance.”
.         I needed to find something more than just hope.
.         And I needed proof.  What got me thinking
.         was the amazing, intricate nature that I saw
.         all around me.  Creation!  Everywhere I went –
.         there it was – staring me in the face.
.         So I just knew that there must be something
.         behind it all which was far greater than me –
.         and bigger than just some crazy coincidence.
.         So after digging out this book from a library –
.         there it was – written out in words – inspired
.         by God, the Creator of the Universe Himself.

(PERSON holds up the Bible, then reads from it.)

PERSON    “For since the creation of the world
.         His invisible attributes,
.         His eternal power and divine nature,
.         have been clearly seen, being understood
.         through what has been made,
.         so that they are without excuse.”
.         Romans 1:20

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    No words necessary.  The proof of God        2
.         has been visible in nature all along.
.         But I wanted to know more,
.         so I dug around and found this...

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    In Ephesians 1:18, “I pray that the eyes
.         of your heart may be enlightened, so that you
.         will KNOW what is the hope of His calling,
.         what are the riches of the glory
.         of His inheritance in the saints.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    Riches?!  GLORY?!  I definitely wanted
.         to find that.  I NEEDED to KNOW that.
.         So I kept searching and discovered that...

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “In Him we have redemption through His blood,
.         the forgiveness of our trespasses,
.         according to the riches of His grace
.         which He lavished on us.
.         In all wisdom and insight He made known to us
.         the mystery of His will,
.         according to His kind intention
.         which He purposed in Him.” Ephesians 1:7-9.
.         And then, this, in John 3:36,
.         “He who believes in the Son has eternal life”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    Okay, done!  But like the man in who said
.         to Jesus, “I do believe; help my unbelief”
.         I still needed to find this FULL assurance.
.         I wanted to be confident in what I believed.
.         Then I learned from this verse in
.         Ephesians 3:12 that we can “have boldness
.         and confident access through faith in Him.”
.         This is great, but HOW do I do this?
.         Well, from verses, like Romans 15:4,
.         we read...

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “For whatever was written in earlier times    3
.         was written for our instruction,
.         so that through perseverance
.         and the encouragement of the Scriptures
.         we might have hope.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    Right there!  Do you see?
.         We gain assurance from studying the Bible.
.         And in 1 Corinthians 2:16, Paul says

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “For who has known the mind of the Lord,
.         that he will instruct Him?
.         But – we - have the mind of Christ.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    Here we learn that God, Himself,
.         is guiding us through His Holy Spirit.
.         And, in Philippians 2:12-13 we’re told:

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “...work out your salvation
.         with fear and trembling;  for it is
.         God who is at work in you, both to will
.         and to work for His good pleasure.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    I’m finding out as I go through life
.         that when I try to do things my way,
.         I only make a mess of things.  But when
.         I do things God’s way, and in God’s strength,
.         and in and through His love, I see the results!
.         I discover a deeper love, joy, contentment,
.         peace, strength, encouragement, maturity...
.         This is proof and assurance to me.  I can also
.         see how God works in others as I worship
.         and fellowship together with other believers.
.         As it says in Colossians 2:2-3:

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “that their hearts may be encouraged,         4
.         having been knit together in love,
.         and attaining to all the wealth that comes
.         from the full ASSURANCE of understanding,
.         resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery,
.         that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden
.         all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    Obviously, there is still an entity of faith
.         required, but when we struggle with this,
.         remember 1 John 3:19-20...

(PERSON reads.)

PERSON    “We will KNOW by this that we are of the truth,
.         and will ASSURE our heart before Him
.         in whatever our heart condemns us;
.         for God is greater than our heart
.         and knows all things.”

(PERSON looks up.)

PERSON    How awesome!  God is our answer to everything.
.         And God will guard our hearts.
.         The more we get to know God,
.         the fuller our assurance will be.
.         This is a treasure indeed worth finding.
