.            then dance on the other side of the stage,
.            with a few motions of “come over here.”
.            As GOOD enter, not knowing they’re good,
.            CAMERAMAN motions to the possible conflict,
.            then he and REPORTER step into shadows
.            to hide and film the interactive dance.

[to Bridge]  “Then you...
.            talking straight...

TERRENCE     (to REPORTER)  Speaking about

.            crazy white woman from the north-

REPORTER     Ah, yeah, that would be me.
.            Are you willing to talk?
.            I see that racial tensions

(WHITE GROUP walks up to TERRENCE & GOOD, pumping fists,

GANG MEMBER at the side shakes his head in disgust.)

TERRENCE     That was fine, my brothers.

GUY          Giving you a heads up
.            to the jam- next Friday.

TERRENCE     Sounds fly.
.            Stay cool ‘til then.

GUY          See all you’all Sunday.

(As WHITE GROUP saunters away, REPORTER swings back
to TERRENCE, thinking she just got a scoop.)

REPORTER     What’s- the “jam” on Friday?

TERRENCE     Sunday?  Is church.
.            JAM – still means music.

REPORTER     But I’m doing a report on
.            the hopeless circumstances

.            I know that some people work
.            2 to 3 jobs, without benefits!
.            Some people are forced
.            to pay “protection” money!
.            And because landlords
.            don’t pay many taxes,
.            the government doesn’t have to
.            spend much on safety or schools-
.            So what I want to know –
.            Is your only hope turning to
.            drugs, crime and prostitution?

TERRENCE     Not at all.  We have hope -

REPORTER     No-no-no-no, I’m here
.            to get the actual facts-
.            the reality of what is here-

TERRENCE     The reality is – knowing Jesus

.            security.  And, no matter
.            what we’re going through-

CHOREOGRPHY: G.MEMBER gets angrier as IRENE becomes weaker.

CHOREOGRPHY: Even though G.MEMBER enters to leer at them,
.            IRENE dances stronger with solo work.

[Chorus]     “I said...

(REPORTER follows TERRENCE for a short while
as he exits with IRENE with the stroller.)

REPORTER     Where are you taking her?

TERRENCE     There’s a shelter
.            down the street.

(TERRENCE and IRENE exit, GOOD GUYS joining them.
GANG MEMBER stands his ground watching on.
REPORTER throws a careful eye at GANG MEMBER
and PROSTITUTE, then back at TERRENCE as he exits.
REPORTER turns to CAMERAMAN.)

REPORTER     Maybe it’s not all bad
.            around here?

CAMERAMAN    I wouldn’t know.
.            Even where we’re from,
.            you never know.
.            Well, I don’t.

REPORTER     (surprised)  Really?

(CAMERAMAN makes a “watch-out” face at REPORTER     19
as GANG MEMBER studies and approaches REPORTER,
obviously scheming about something.)

REPORTER     Ah, hi, I- I’m here to get
.            your side of the story-
.            Well, as far as I’m concerned,
.            there ARE no sides.

GANG MEMBER  So you’d be into me?

REPORTER     Noooo-

GANG MEMBER  You wanna stay alive?

REPORTER     I believe – that – everyone
.            has the right to speak-

GANG MEMBER  What do I get out of it?

REPORTER     I- we- don’t have any money-

(GANG MEMBER looks at her knowingly.)

GANG MEMBER  The camera’s worth something.

REPORTER     No - no-no, ahhh – but we -
.            could - GET -you some money.

(GANG MEMBER leers at her before going into his dance.)

SONG 8:      “
Ill-M-I” (TobyMac, Welcome to Diverse City)
DANCE STYLE: Krump

CHOREOGRPHY: GANG joins GANG MEMBER in dance
.            with threatening gestures to REPORTER.
.            GOOD GUYS return and dance off.
.            Meanwhile, REPORTER carefully holds out
.            the mic, and CAMERAMAN holds up camera
.            hoping to catch something on film.

[to Chorus]  “Yo – Yo...
.            Yo – yo...

[Interlude]  (you can fade out here to shorten)

(TERRENCE suddenly enters and blocks GANG MEMBER
from getting to REPORTER, ending with a stare-down.)

TERRENCE     She’s just trying to help.                21
.            What you doing about it?

GANG MEMBER  You’re not perfect either,
.            Terrence.  If the good
.            has to outweigh the bad-

TERRENCE     Then we’d all doomed.
.            But there’s hope for everyone-
.            including you-

(GANG MEMBER bumps TERRENCE’S shoulder as he pushes past
and returns to his post at stage right, keeping a
vigilant eye on the scene.  REPORTER turns to TERRENCE.)

REPORTER     There’s a lot of
.            angry people around here.
.            I mean, I can understand why-

TERRENCE     That’s why we talk about
.            the hope found in Jesus.

REPORTER     How can THAT
.            be hope in THIS place?
.            This place is HOPE-LESS,
.            and THAT is what I want
.            to show in my documentary-
.            not this religious stuff-

CAMERAMAN    Ah, I- actually want
.            to know more about that.

SONG 9:      “
Make Your Move” (Third Day, Move)
DANCE STYLE: Jazz/Broadway stylized Hip Hop

CHOREOGRPHY: CAMERAMAN hands camera to a surprised
.            and perplexed REPORTER, then

.            as TERRENCE backs up toward stage right.

[to Verse 1] “I’m looking...
.            for some...

CHOREOGRPHY: ADDICT enters to watch with interest.
.            PROSTITUTE joins CAMERAMAN, dancing toward
.            TERRENCE as he backs up toward stage left.

[to Verse 2] “I gotta...
.            that there’s...
.            I know...
.            But nevertheless,
.            still I...
.            Would you...

CHOREOGRPHY: ADDICT joins in dance.
.            SOME SCHOOL KIDS enter to watch.

[to Chorus]  “Well, you’ve...
.            Won’t you...
.            before I...
.            And I...
.            I’m listening...
.            Won’t you...”

CHOREOGRPHY: A FEW SCHOOL KIDS join in dance.

[to Verse 3] “I know...
.            to life...
.            I feel...
.            And I...
.            to find...

CHOREOGRPHY: GANG MEMBER throws aside a toothpick
.            then joins in dance.

[to Verse 4] “And if...

CHOREOGRPHY: As TERRENCE does a few moves,
.            the REST echo them.

[Chorus]     “Well, you’ve...                    23

.            Won’t you...

.            I’m listening...
.            Won’t you...
.            make your...”

(Fade out music at interlude at this point,
otherwise it is too long.  Curious DANCE GROUP
approaches TERRENCE.  CAMERAMAN collects his camera.)

CAMERAMAN    Okay, go ahead, we’re rolling.
.            So – explain to me this hope?

REPORTER     Ah, yes, I am dubious, but...
.            please tell us how
.            there can be any hope
.            in a place like this?

TERRENCE     God is everywhere.  So –
.            you can find this hope
.            anywhere – in any situation.

REPORTER     What’s your story?

TERRENCE     There was a time, when
.            everything I was doing –
.            was without HOPE.  But now -
.            I just want to talk about
.            the hope I found in Jesus.

REPORTER     I do not believe any of that-

TERRENCE     It doesn’t matter what
.            you believe-  That is not
.            going to change facts.
.            It’s not going to change
.            what the truth actually is.

REPORTER     But... I came here to get –
.            the BEAT- of the street!

TERRENCE     Oh, you want the beat?  Well,
.            this is MY beat- for THIS beat
.            street – and any OTHER street!

(Fade out music here or it will be too long.
(REPORTER marches up to TERRENCE, filled with sarcasm.) 25

REPORTER     And NOW your life is perfect?
.            Look around you!

(FRIEND walks up to REPORTER.)

FRIEND       Nothing and no one is perfect-
.            EXCEPT for Jesus.
.            That is WHY we need Jesus.
.            Jesus is God.  He came to earth,
.            to die for our sins,
.            and pay the price.  So when
.            we ask Him to forgive us,
.            He forgives us for eternity.
.            And until we get to heaven,
.            we must remember -
.            God is the fire that
.            keeps us warm while
.            we’re down here- So
.            when we fall – we need to
.            get right back up again-

(Start music so that there’s still speaking for the intro.)

(You can fade out song earlier to short this.)

REPORTER     Too easy!  Sounds
.            too good to be true.
.                                                  27
TERRENCE     Too easy?  Life IS hard.
.            So this is what we cling to.
.            But you just wanted
.            to see the grim state
.            of OUR existence.
.            What about your own?
.            Or are you saying that you
.            and your life are perfect?

REPORTER     Ah, no.  Not at all.

TERRENCE     Don’t matter who we are,
.            what color, man or woman,
.            rich or poor,
.            we’re all the same.
.            We all have problems.
.            We’re all born into sin-
.            death- separation from God.
.            But Jesus gave us a way
.            to get back to God.
.            And Jesus- is the only way
.            to get back to God.

REPORTER     (desperate to be right)
.            There are other ways.

REPORTER     If there is a God like that,

TERRENCE     God gives everyone a choice.

REPORTER     Okay, but then why are there

TERRENCE     We still have choices to make.
.            But in God’s family, we have
